STAAR Test Resources and Training for Teachers

The new Texas Education Association (TEA) STAAR test calls for effective STAAR test resources and training to get students STAAR ready. The National Math + Science Initiative has the tools to help.

About the TEA STAAR and EOC Tests

Assessments have recently changed for Texas students in grades 3 through 12. What was once the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test is now the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test for elementary and middle school students. High school students are now taking end-of-course (EOC) subject-specific tests for math, science, English, and history.

All of these changes signal a huge need for districts to get the training and resources to get students STAAR ready.

STAAR Teacher Training

The National Math + Science Initiative offers STAAR training for math, science, and English teachers. These one-day training sessions are much like our standard teacher training events:

  • Hands-on and engaging
  • Rigorous and relevant
  • Vertically aligned
  • Supportive and progressive

Since 2001, more than 50,000 teachers have participated in National Math + Science Initiative's teacher training program. And a growing number of those teachers are Texas teachers who have been through our STAAR-specific training to get STAAR ready themselves.

STAAR Test Resources

When teachers attend our STAAR training events, they receive STAAR test resources they can use right away in the classroom. Each teacher gets a hard copy manual of lessons, strategies, and materials. These STAAR test resources are included in a drop box file as well.

The National Math + Science Initiative's resources are developed for teachers, by teachers – teachers with several years of in-classroom teaching experience. These teachers know what it takes to get students STAAR ready and have created the tools to accomplish that goal.
