GlaxoSmithKline Joins NMSI College Readiness Program Effort

GlaxoSmithKline joined two other private donors, AECOM and Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, on Friday in support of Aiken County Public Schools’ implementation of the National Math and Science Initiative College Readiness Program at South Aiken and North Augusta high schools.

The district made the announcement at the NMSI STEM Mentoring Exchange at South Aiken High. The event allowed South Aiken High students in Advanced Placement science, technology, engineering and mathematics classes to talk with and ask questions of local scientists and engineers.

“I’m going to ask you today to do something we don’t ask you to do. I’m going to ask you to be selfish,” District Superintendent Dr. Sean Alford said to the students. “Today is all about you. You have to ask your questions. You have to help determine your path, find out what you are interested in, what you might want your contribution to the community to be. So, it’s OK to be selfish today. Engage.”
