NMSI Awards $2M Endowment to LSU's GeauxTeach

From the LSU site BATON ROUGE – The National Math and Science Initiative, or NMSI, will present a check for $1 million dollars to the LSU Foundation for the GeauxTeach Math/Science teacher preparation program during a reception March 12 at the LSU Memorial Tower. The donation was a result of a challenge issued by NMSI to raise $1 million in endowment to sustain and grow the GeauxTeach program. UTeach #35! Old Dominion University

We are very excited with the progress of the UTeach program that recruits and prepares mathematics and science majors to become great math and science teachers.  They still graduate with a BS or BA in subject but go into the classroom early and often so that they are prepared to teach.  NMSI has been working with UTeach to expand this program from the original UT program to the 35 universities it is in now.  Great news - from the UTeach Institute site -  Old Dominion University Joins National UTeach Effort March ...

The common core training for teacher preparation teams from Tennessee universities started today. The NMSI team took the best of what we have learned from our PARCC educator leader cadre training and created a very specific training for higher education. Common Core for Higher Ed

Next month the National Math and Science teacher training team will be heading to Tennessee to work with college of education faculty on imbedding common core into teacher preparation.  This is a first as far as we know and a great collaboration between the Tennessee HIgher Education Commission (THEC), Lipscomb University and NMSI.
