Detroit Students Prepare for Upcoming AP Tests
with National Education Program

Schools benefit from free expert-led study sessions, advanced teacher training


 WHAT: More than 150 Detroit high school students will gather with expert teachers from around the region and across the country to prepare for the annual Advanced Placement® exams that could qualify them for free course credit at a wide range of U.S. colleges and universities. Students will take AP® exams May 1-12.

 

Students heading to the military or the workforce get college-level experience in problem solving and critical thinking, which can help them in their chosen paths.

 

WHO: Students from Cass Technical High School, Renaissance High School and Western International High School as well as expert AP teachers, school officials and representatives from the National Math and Science Initiative.

WHEN: Saturday, April 29, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

NMSI representatives, including CEO Matthew Randazzo, as well as school officials, will be available for interviews throughout the event.


With school administrators’ permission, students can be interviewed between sessions:

                                Session 1, 8:30-9:25 a.m.

                                Session 2, 9:30-10:25 a.m.

                                Session 3, 10:30-11:25 a.m.

                                Session 4, 11:30 a.m. -12:25 p.m.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:    Detroit Public Schools partners with the National Math and Science Initiative through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Investing in Innovation (i3) program. NMSI’s College Readiness Program increases teachers’ subject-matter expertise and provides mentors who are experts in AP courses. It also provides students with expert-led study sessions and additional supplies and equipment.
